A couple of days ago Chris Pearson (the creator of the Thesis Theme) released the beta version of Thesis 1.8 to developers which will add some great new features. The first and likely most notable thing for you is the ability to upload your own header image. This is great if you already have a company logo or even if you’d simply like a nice photo for the background of your header. In order to cater for this I will be preparing my Thesis marketing skins to make sure that they can accommodate these new header images.
Another feature is that Thesis will now fully support the use of WordPress 3.0 Menus by default. This will allow me to streamline the code of my Thesis Marketing Skins and more importantly mean that you can easily switch between the WordPress Menu and Thesis Navigation directly from the dashboard.
Of course not everything that makes a website tick is on the front end. If you are interested in having the best possible SEO optimization for your website then you will be happy to know that all SEO options within the Edit Posts/Pages area now have a character counter so you know exactly how much of your meta tags will be picked up by the search engines allowing you to optimize with even more efficiency.
This is just a small sample of what we can look forward to when Thesis 1.8 finally drops. As it is still currently within the first beta release there is no verified date. So should you wait for the new release before adding one of the skins on this site. Not at all! I plan to make every upgrade go as seamlessly as possible and will endeavour to integrate all of the new Thesis features into the skin within the first 72 hours of the official release. If you are a current customer you will get first notification when this happens and of course you will get a completely free upgrade to the updated version of your Thesis Marketing Skin.
